First Lisburn Holiday Bible Club 2009

Showstoppers HBC 2009 Review by Hilary Ferguson

Now having recovered from what was my first Holiday Bible Club in FLPC it's a good time to reflect on the events of the week itself.

We kicked the whole week of on Monday 17th August. This years programme was designed so that the focus was on God's great plan for salvation, and on creative arts. The Bible stories are connected in such a way that they represent "God's big plan" for his world - from creation and fall to redemption through the death and resurrection of Jesus.  It is packed with creative teaching, games, songs, crafts.

The programme provided opportunities so that the children would;

 -       Have the chance to discover God's plan for saving his world.

-       Discover the God is faithful and trustworthy
 -
Discover the significance of Jesus and what he came to do
 -
Have a chance to respond to Jesus and help them discover that God has a plan for their lives
 -
Be able to hear what it means to be a Christian, as they talk with adult Christians
 -
Have a fun and active week.

Showstoppers is based on the belief that creativity and spirituality are inextricably linked, the workshops allow children to explore their own spirituality through the process of creating.  All individuals made in God's image have the ability to create and should enjoy "having a go".  It's not what is produced that counts but the learning and sharing which produces the "end product".

Showstoppers aims to help children grow familiar with this great plan, whether they have heard these stories before, or are new to them.  The Bible teaching is the most important part of the programme - children will encounter the Bible in the up-front presentation in the Showstoppers! Showcase, in the conversations in their groups as they work at crafts.

We had an amazing team of leaders this year, and I want to say a huge thank you to each and every single person who gave of their time to be on the team, and not just those who were hands on with the kids each day, but also those who helped provide food for the team each day and for those who were lifting us and the children up in prayer each day. I also want to say thank you for each parent, grand-parent, guardian for bringing their children each day...it was a pleasure to have them.

Hilary
